This story is a sequel to The Cause Sanguine, it was written for the 2011 spnslash Big Bang.

Summary: Dean is a hunter and Sam is sort of a werewolf, but they are determined to stick together and overcome the challenges of the path they have chosen. Their latest problem is the recovery of a cursed mirror from the estate of a deceased hunter. The mirror’s curse doesn't bother Sam, but it stirs up old doubts for Dean as he is reminded that the only thing harder than facing the monsters, is facing yourself.

Credits! As ever, my profound gratitude to vodou-blue. I’ve never posted a story that hasn’t had her subtle fingerprints all over it, and been vastly improved for her effort (okay, one story, but that’s only because I didn’t want her scarred...) She hasn’t been feeling well lately, and there isn’t anything I can do for her but offer good wishes and diverting fic, so I hope this is distracting for a few minutes at least! *HUGS* 

My plotting buddy and permanent cheerleader,elusive_life_77, has had the usual influence *grins* my stories shift directions based on the lengths of her silences when I float ideas. As slow as I write now, I would write a lot slower without her willingness to review text and constant support. And the zombies. We shoot a whole lot of zombies together too... 

caz2y5 - despite battling her way through her SPN J2 BB entry, Caz has been been there to let me bounce (inflict) all sort of rambling fic-related things. It’s a big help to have someone to talk with at 3 a.m. when I’ve been too lazy to go to bed, and I’m always grateful for her company! 

I’m also very grateful to rikyu, biteme82, and dimensionallyt. I haven’t posted/written a sequel before and I was concerned about the story’s readability as a stand alone. These guys did me the vastly appreciated favor of combing through the fic and not only making suggestions to fix the stand-alone issues, but also a wide variety of useful suggestions to improve the overall flow and content. Really, so grateful. Thank you! 

And last, but never least, my thanks to the mods of spnslash Big Bang, and most especially to smut-slut, who did the fantastic art you see throughout the story!  Okay, so not quite last. skaredykat jumped in right after posting and gave me a whole list of little technical errors that I goofed while messing with the beta'd copy *looks shifty* I actually appreciate that kind of help, because nothing throws me out of a fic faster *HUGS*

I just have to say, I've been reading through your works and love them SO much! Yours are actually some of the first epic-length stories I've found in this fandom that are worth reading, at least in english, and I love your plot ideas! This one especially was one of my favorites, though I do have one complaint: It broke my heart into itty-bitty pieces when Sam lost his shapeshifting. Do you think, maybe, you'll get around to writing a third part to this series? One where Sam regains his ability (in some copacity) to shapeshift? And, since I'm pressing my luck anyway, I thought I'd share a scene that won't leave me alone since I read Phil's reaction to sam covered in blood. The scene is this: Agent Henrickson and his parter (Agent Reidy?) having Dean in custody and Sam busting in, completely disreguarding their attempts to stop him, and Dean explaining to Sam that, no, you can't kill the annoying federal agents.

I'm glad you have enjoyed the stories! I'm always interested in which ones people have liked and why, I always feel like Fortress is the best one, but I seem outvoted since both The Cause Sanguine series and In Arcadia Ego are considerably more popular *grins*

I like the scene idea! There is some material for a prospective third story, but I'm not in a good position to commit to further stories. If I am able to do it, we're probably looking at around this time next year at best, but no promises. Thank you so much for the feedback! <3
