*You can still see the original art for Fortress on the MasterFic page and on section one of the story. This new art was a gift from DavidoFF (not on LJ), who found the story by reading SlytherinPunk's in-process Russian translation (posted here when complete.) Thank you to both of them! I love Sil's banner too, but I wanted to give this one some face time since it is also fantastic!

Author's Notes
First off, make sure you go and check out the the master art post! Sil made banners, a fanmix, and even a vid for this story! Her work is awesome and everyone should stop in and take a good look. I know some of it didn't turn out quite like she had intended, but it looks wonderful, really - go! Excellent stuff. And she formatted and posted the complete file versions for download, so those of you who prefer to do your reading that way know who to thank!

A lot of people provided me excellent feedback and advice with this monster of a fic. Some of them only looked at sections, and a few brave and hardy souls did the entire gauntlet. I am deeply grateful for all of their assistance, and hope that I might return the favor in the future. vodou-blue got entangled with this project actually as a result of mistaken identity. She thought I was another author and was offering to help me out with a story, and I managed to shang-hai her into this one when it was still a few sketches and some loose plotting. She has provided constant feedback and outstanding technical support. Her lightening fast grammar beta work should be the stuff of fandom legend. elusive_life_77 and dime_for_12 have been my constant writing buddies through email and chat clients for months now. Both of them have done their own BigBang stories for this challenge, and I have spent many hours looking over their fics while they provided the same service for me. I like to think I helped make their stories a little better, I know they both contributed greatly to the quality of mine. Other people who have come along this journey are wickedlilwitch, fickleanactoria, Cait - who's journal I can't seem to find at the moment, and Leyla. Anyone else who helped and I have overlooked, drop me a line so I can credit you properly!

I hope that I can effectively put into words even a little bit of what is flowing through my mind after reading Fortress. I am new to LJ and found your story when I saw Static posted. After reading the summary I wondered if it was a continuation- so glad it was! Fortress was simply amazing, a work of art itself! I found it last night and just finished reading the whole thing straight through! Couldn't bring myself to put it down (so to speak- read the entire thing on my druid phone...) The detail, the plot, the spot on characterizations were amazing! The talent I saw here, I hope you write in some form for a living. How you came up with this plot in such minute detail and have it flow so effortlessly through this long involved story is something else! From the religion, the mythology, the relationships between all the characters. Just all felt so right! I loved when you revealed (and how you revealed it) that demon Dean did not kill Mace! How accurately portrayed Sam's horror when he thought Dean had. I totally loved the whole part where Dean stole the spell from Ruby!! Loved that you kept Bobby a part of things throughout the story. So many things I could go on and on. But now I'M off to add this to my memories (it just begs to be read again!), friend you so I can be sure to catch future writings and read past ones, and then get started on reading Static! Should sleep but have to continue this awesomeness...

Thank you for sharing your talent! Color me jealous!

*baffled* I would have sworn I responded to this a couple of days ago. My brain is like a sieve! I'm glad you enjoyed Fortress so much! It ended up being a lot longer than I had anticipated *wryly* but I figured a little longer for the whole story instead of gutting some of what I thought was important was a good trade off. I wish I did writing for a living *grins* Thank you so much for your kind words, and I hope you enjoyed Static as much! <3
