You really pulled this together beautifully! I truly love a story that has the whole package: fantastic character development, a good plot, some serious conflict that is not easily dismissed or pushed aside, and a plausible ending. And you did it fantastically!
You already know that I adored the slow build-up in the relationship between Dean and the wolf. And I love how intelligent and even brave you made Sam despite his lack of language or normal human interaction skills. I'm glad you kept it from Dean's perspective, although I am still amazed that you did it!
Before I forget (because I keep forgetting...), I thought the variation in quotes at the beginning of the chapters was a lovely touch. And who better to finish off with than Calvin and Hobbes! :)
The test made sense. Perfect sense. While his family trusted Sam, they did not trust Dean, so their unwillingness to just give Sam what he wanted was a great solution. Unfortunately, it backfired, at least for a couple of years. Although, I think being apart made Dean understand the bond better, even if he still won't quite admit it.
And what a sacrifice Sam made--to remain in human form forever! I hope Dean appreciates it. That has to be hard for Sam.
Oh and I almost forgot...How dare John keep them apart so long! :)
I should probably stop here and tell you I really enjoyed your story (if you can't tell by now). :) If I hadn't had to be at work at 6 AM this morning, I would have easily finished it last night. It is easy to read, flows smoothly, and leaves me wanting to read more.
